Summary
Lydia is going through the Paul’s files while Claire watches on, thinking of all of the horrible possibilities of why Paul has amassed information on so many women. Claire begins to feel incredibly tired, drifting off to sleep and remembering her life with Paul. She jolts awake when she hears the words he said to her in the alleyway: “Tell me you want this” (155).
Claire returns to the kitchen where Lydia is waiting. Lydia tells Claire that she realized that of the women who had reported being raped, Paul had hired detectives to follow them on the anniversaries of their rapes, a suspicious coincidence.
