Chapters 9 and 10 Summary

Marlene is in bed trying to fall asleep and thinking about everything she told Beth. Marlene knows her newfound faith requires her to confess her part and Bill's part. She is worried that it will also lead to Marlene's prosecution unless she can get immunity for testifying against Bill. Bill appears in Marlene's doorway. He asks her what she told Beth and then he pulls a gun on her.

Lisa Westin, Jimmy's sister, is awake in her bed at the children's home. she's been waiting for Jimmy to return. She sees Bill's car pull up and him go into his cottage. She remembers the night their mother didn't come home and they became wards of the state. Jimmy promised Lisa he would never leave her. She sneaks into the room where Jimmy's bed is to see if he packed his stuff...
