Family
Family is an easily seen theme in the story. While the story is mainly directed at Sally Owens, the other members of her family are also explored. The bond of sisters is seen between Sally and Gillian. It is not an unrealistic bond in that they love each other, but neither agrees with the way that the other one lives. Sally believes that Gillian has made a horrible mess of her own life through her own flighty behavior. Gillian also believes that Sally is wasting what life she has because she is not willing to take any chances or enjoy herself. The relationship between Sally and her daughters is also seen.
