Part 4: Monday, Chapter 33, Rivera and Chapter 34, U-Pick-Em Summary
Rivera realizes, on his way to Pine Cove, that he has left his bullet-proof vest behind. He purposefully told no one where he was going, since the hunt for a serial killer might be a wild goose chase. No one is home at Effrom Elliot's house, and the policeman enters, perhaps illegally. He sees the bullet hole in Effrom's bedroom door.
When Rivera reports to the station, he gets a message from Nailsworth that Effrom's granddaughter is married to Robert, Rivera's suspect, and so Rivera heads off to track down Jenny. He learns there was a fire at her house and sees for himself the aftereffects of Gus Brine's floury explosions. No one's home, and the cafe is closed. Rivera heads toward the town watering hole, the Head of the Slug...
