Part 2: Sunday, Chapter 9, The Head of the Slug and Chapter 10, Augustus Brine Summary
Mavis Sand owns the Head of the Slug, the local bar. Over the years, she has lost various body parts to disease and old age: her gall bladder, uterus, heart valve, eye lenses, appendix, hearing, teeth, and most of her hair. Still, she smears her mouth with lipstick and sprays herself with perfume.
Robert comes into the bar, and Mavis gets him a beer. At the pool table, the local pool shark is playing a stranger, Travis. The Breeze's landlord and Rivera both call the bar, looking for The Breeze, and Robert becomes even more depressed. Meanwhile, the stranger is mysteriously winning the pool match by making impossible shots. The pool shark gets his custom-made pool cue from Mavis.
