Chapter 2 Summary
Henry enjoys a run of good luck at the racetrack, making $15-40 a day. Betty gets a job as a typist. He rises at 10:30, eats, flirts with the mechanic's young wife and gets friendly with the stripper in front. He is at the track by 1 p.m. and picks Betty up at the bus stop. One night, Betty announces she cannot stand having friends think she is supporting him and telling him about his goings on. He reminds her about women's liberation and that his track winnings are paying the rent and buying food. Betty asks whether he wants the house or prefers to move out.
