Summary

In “A Letter to Posterity,” Victoria writes a letter to her future grand- or great-grandchild, within which she corrects the errors in Archie’s enclosed manuscript.

After Archie's death, Victoria found the manuscript and was horrified by its contents. She saved one copy, because it was the last evidence of Archie’s life. Although Victoria married Archie for convenience, she grew fond of him over the years. However, Archie proved lazy and unmotivated throughout their marriage. He worked as a public health officer for 11 months and abandoned his altruistic dreams to write unpublishable novels and occasionally tend to their children. He spent increasing amounts of time writing the enclosed manuscript after he fell ill.
