Paris

Ponyboy begins the novel living in Paris with Baby, his girlfriend. The two seem to be growing further apart as they both carry on affairs of their own. Here, they also seem to be increasingly at odds about what they each want out of their relationship, and it does not seem like the two have compatible visions for the future. Ponyboy is becoming more frustrated that Baby does not see him as a man, and Baby does not seem to validate any of his thoughts on his gender. The two both carry on affairs with other people that give them more of what they need in Paris, but their relationship is amiable enough.
