The Russian Odessa

The pistol represents the connections between Oslo's narcotics trade, Oleg, his mother, and Harry Hole. The Russian Odessa is an ugly automatic pistol which is a copy of the better-known Stechkin. This particular Russian Odessa traveled from Lithuania to Siberia and entered Norway with Rudolf Asayev, the head of the narcotics cartel in Oslo. Oleg Fauke, the last person to use the pistol, shot Harry Hole three times with it while the inspector was investigating the murder of drug dealer Gusto Hanssen. The gun now lies on a cupboard shelf in the house belonging to Rakel Fauke, Oleg's mother and a close family of Harry Hole. Harry helped to raise Oleg as if he were his own son and Oleg once hoped Harry would marry his mother.
