Summary
Chapter 27 begins with Devi reproaching Ea for both getting her punished by Ku and for bringing the remora to the Tursiops to latch onto Chit. The two fight, and Ea claims that Yaru is “still here” in the ocean somewhere, much to the co-wives’ and Devi’s dismay (181). Chit relays that the remora is saying that “Ea killed her mother” which is why she is out here (182). Ea begins to have a seizure. The co-wives go with Ea to get sarpa to help her, but they see “the roots of the kelp pulsing red” unexpectedly when they go to find the fish (184). The sarpa burst out in great numbers, “listing and weakly flapping as if already dying” (184). They see “red liquid” all around, and Devi and the rest of the co-wives start vomiting the sarpa back up, except for Ea (185). They return to...
