Olivia and Chapters 8-9 Summary
Olivia. After dinner, Olivia returns to her writings. Olivia talks about her move into prostitution. Olivia preferred to keep older men as her clients because these men seemed truly grateful for her actions. One of these men liked to meet Olivia on a street corner where she would wait in a costume suitable for his fantasies. One afternoon, this man failed to show up, but as she continued to wait, Olivia ran into Chris Faraday. Olivia attempted to sell her services to Chris, but instead he invited her to dinner. Afterward, Chris invited Olivia to his home, a barge he was in the process of building in Little Venice. Instead of having sex with Olivia, however, Chris paid her to help him build the barge.
Olivia then begins to relate how she believes her mother became involved...
