Summary

Todd and Rafi spent almost all of their time playing chess. Meanwhile, Todd’s interest in technology grew. He started building new software and researching early AI. Sometimes he included Rafi. Rafi had begun spending holidays and weekends with Todd at the Castle. One day, Rafi showed up with Nikolai Fyodorov’s book from the library. Rafi was fascinated by Fyodorov’s theory that someday human advancement would allow people to resurrect everyone who had died. When Todd scoffed, Rafi shared about his family life and Sondy’s death.

After graduation, Todd and Rafi made plans to attend college. Todd told Rafi he was too smart for community college. He urged Rafi to join him at the University of Illinois. Rafi insisted that Todd did not understand his situation. Then, while they were driving one day, Rafi announced his plans to attend Northwestern...
