Chapters 15 - 16 Summary
Paul visits the Gottwald farm. The farm is in poor shape, filled with antiques in their original condition, but Paul loves it. The real estate agent is against Paul taking the farm, saying that it would not be suitable for someone in his position, but Paul tells the agent, Doctor Pond, that the farm will only be a hobby. Pond drops the price down to $8,000.
Paul meets the caretaker of the farm, Mr. Haycox. Haycox scoffs at the real estate agent and the engineer calling themselves "doctor." The only real people who are doctors, Haycox says, are vets, dentists, and physicians. Pond defends the integrity of a Ph.D., but Haycox doesn't put any stock in it. Haycox says that Gottwald promised he could still run the farm for the rest of his life, but Pond says that Paul isn't bound...
