Chapter 14: The Mistake Summary and Analysis

Slim buys a new 1939 "Hog" car and gets rid of his fourth whore after only 3 months because she is too possessive. He quickly convinces another whore to join his ranks. Glass Top gets busted selling narcotics and gets sentenced to jail. For the next three years, Slim works hard and never has less than 5 whores in his group, getting a new car every year. He is at Sweet's house when he sees Pearl Harbot getting bombed. Sweet predicts the war will change prostitution because it will provide more opportunity for women to earn money in ways besides prostitution. In December, 1944, Slim is doing well, professionally.
