After leaving the State Reformatory school, he reports to his parole officer who gives him an I.Q. test. Beck receives a score of 175. Now eighteen, he meets a 25-year-old ex-whore named Pepper in Mama's beauty shop in Minneapolis. She teaches him a number of sexual tricks he will use later in life.
