Chapter 2: First Steps into the Jungle Summary and Analysis

Beck is fourteen when he first meets Party Time. Party Time is a street hustler who introduces Beck to a number of cons they can play on white men looking to score with a black hooker. Beck dresses up as a black hooker in a dress and stands down a dark alley while Party Time entices men to pay him to be with the mysterious hooker. After the man pays and is walking towards Beck, both Party Time and Beck take off running, meeting up again in a pre-arranged location blocks away. This scam works well until Party Time is busted by the cops and goes to jail. However, Party Time never gives Beck's name, so Beck stays out of jail on this occasion.
