Summary

In “April,” Harri and Lydia liked visiting the launderette and playing a game while watching the clothes spin in the machines.

Harri’s mother’s favorite television show was the news. Harri had to be serious while watching. The reporter talked about searching for the dead boy’s killer. Killers “all over the world” looked the same (54). Harri and Dean were determined to catch him.

At recess, the Dell Farm Crew dared the younger boys to do dangerous things. They said Harri could be in their gang if he pulled the fire alarm. When he failed to break the glass, he ran away, convinced they could not catch him because he was the fastest.

At church, Harri listened to Mr. Frimpong sing loudly and Pastor Taylor talk about wisdom. He thought his science teacher Mr. Tomlin was “the wisest person” he knew (59).
