Section 8: Eighth Picture and Chapter 9 Summary
In Eighth Picture, End of Summer, Hollis draws the frenzy of the last week of August. One night during dinner on the front porch, Izzy and the Old Man tell her their plans, and though she does not need a picture of that night, Hollis draws Izzy holding her hand, the Old Man hugging her and Steven trying not to let her see how close he is to tears. She also draws Izzy and herself kissing Steven's cheeks as they all laugh. The Regans tells Hollis she belongs with them, and Steven looks happier than he has all summer. Recalling Steven's many arguments with the Old Man, Hollis begs for it to be alright because she worries that their fights are related to her presence.
