Huston's Ranch
John Huston's ranch in the San Fernando Valley is the sight for all of The Red Badge for Courage filming. Though Huston initially wants to shoot the picture in Nashville, he eventually settles on using his own land for the production. During the initial stages of filming, Huston works with his team to establish the best portions of the ranch to use for the film's intense battle scenes. Ross often comments on the beauty of the setting and Huston's obvious connection with the land. Throughout the production, Huston directs the film on horseback, fulfilling one of his dearest dreams.
