Summary
Chapter 21, “A Very Likely Cause,” contains just one subsections, which presents a case study. Muller states, “Global warming is real,” and then goes on to explain why it is real, and why the statements that may seem wishy-washy to the general public are actually the strongest statements scientists can make to say that global warming is real and caused by human activities (273). In the introduction, Muller presents statistical evidence. In “Doing Something about It: Alaska,” Muller presents anecdotal evidence, namely, what he saw when he visited Alaska. The effects of global warming are very evident there.
Chapter 22, “Evidence,” provides examples of how scientific evidence can be presented in both helpful and misleading ways, in seven different subsections each devoted to a different type of argument or debate tactic.
