Summary
Chapter 4, “Biological Terrorism,” contains just one heading, “The Anthrax Attack.” It is followed by the over-all “Terrorism” section wrap-up. Just one week after the September 11th terrorist attacks, the U.S was hit with another threat. Envelopes containing Anthrax, a deadly virus whose spores can be easily stored as a fine, white powder were sent to news stations and government buildings in a series of unmarked envelopes. Twenty-two people became sick, and five died. The reason that these numbers stayed relatively low is that unlike infectious diseases such as small pox, the cold or the flu, anthrax does not spread person-to-person. Instead, it is limited to infecting only those who directly breathe in anthrax spores.
