Summary
The action is continuous. S.B. comes in from the shop and goes through his end-of-day routine. While Public remains almost entirely silent, Private speaks mocking commentary that reveals S.B. is a county councilor, and then says what S.B. routinely says before S.B. actually says it. As S.B. eats, Private speaks with increasing anger about how S.B. has never said anything unpredictable, about how S.B. does not trust Gar in the shop, and about how S.B. has not acknowledged the fact that Gar is leaving. He also wants S.B. to urge Gar to stay. Eventually, Public cries out to Madge that she needs to bring more bread. Both S.B. and Madge point out that he could have gotten it himself.
