This novel adaptation offers a chance to examine an extremely popular narrative in greater detail. Of course, since Brooks was allowed to make additions to the narrative, it is not the same as examining the movie in a frozen print form. On the other hand, the author was allowed access to the creator of the narrative, George Lucas, and to background information Lucas had generated which did not make it into the movie, so in that sense the novel offers a source for more in-depth discussion of specific topics. It is certainly very interesting to analyze elements of the novel closely to study this narrative which has been so influential on multiple generations. However, the "Star Wars" series ultimately participates greatly in the tradition of myth, so the reader performing analysis should be forewarned that if, as in an ancient myth, not everything hangs seamlessly together...
