Summary

On “Friday,” when Pew met Dr. Corbin, Pew noted it appeared that Corbin had “just realized something dear and lost to him was never coming back” (166). Pew tells his reader it is both helpful and also feels like an affliction to be able to see through the masks people wear.

Corbin took Pew to a diner where they were confronted by a woman, Judy Columbus, who insisted on having a few minutes alone with Pew. She told Pew that her son, Johnny, who had been close to Corbin, disappeared or got taken about a year ago. She believed Corbin was part of the reason Johnny disappeared. She believed he took Christianity too seriously. First, he stopped eating meat, and then fish and eggs. Soon he would barely eat anything. She took him to doctors and psychologists, but they did not have the right kind...
