Summary
Leota then complains about her husband Fred, whom she previously called lazy, and whom she now says is foolish. Leota even says that she is tired of Fred in general. Leota has been trying to persuade Fred to go to the city of Vicksburg to look for work. When Mrs. Fletcher sees that Billy is in the salon again, she asks about Mrs. Pike. Leota suddenly seems exasperated. She first says that one reason that she and Fred stopped renting a room to Sal and Joe was because Sal and Joe stole home-brewed alcohol from them. Then, before Mr. and Mrs. Pike moved in, Leota redecorated the room for them, but Mr. and Mrs. Pike never even expressed gratitude for it. While redecorating, Leota put some old magazines in the room in case the Pikes might want some reading material.
