Part 2: Chapters 4-7 Summary

Visions of Sugarplums. On Christmas Day, Dr. Paul takes everyone to a ballet performance of The Nutcracker because of Catherine's love of ballet. Afterward, they go backstage so that Dr. Paul can introduce Catherine to Madame Marisha Rosencoff and her husband, Georges. Madame Marisha seems interested in Catherine until she learns no one has ever told Catherine she is a great dancer. Christopher becomes angry and insists that Madame Marisha give Catherine a chance to prove herself. Madame Marisha agrees to allow Catherine to audition the following day. Catherine is horrified, afraid she is not in good enough shape to pass the audition. Christopher again tries to comfort her with kisses, causing another discussion about the sin of incest.

The Audition. Catherine's nerves melt away the moment she begins to dance at her audition. Unfortunately, Catherine begins to bleed...
