Jam

Jam is a teenager who lives in a town named Lucile, where officials repeatedly say there are no more monsters allowed to roam free. She is the only daughter of Bitter and Aloe. Her mother, Bitter, is a painter. Her father is a paramedic. Jam feels she has a strong relationship with her parents, but that relationship is tested after Jam brings Pet to life. Pet insists that there is something dangerous happening in Redemption's house. Pet's assertion makes Jam determined to do due diligence, even after her parents order her to send Pet back to his realm.

In several ways, Jam is not typical. She was born a boy but began to identify as a girl from age three. She received an implant to provide the estrogen her body needs to look like a girl, and she had gender reassignment surgery at 15. She is selectively mute, meaning...
