Summary
Chapter 1 opens with the sentence that “There shouldn't be any monsters left in Lucille” (1). There was a time when monsters roamed freely and worked as “police and teachers and judges and even the mayor” (1). Then there was a revolution and angles prosecuted those who had done these kinds of wrongs. These angels banned guns because of school shootings and suicides and changed other laws. They tore down historical statues of men who had owned slaves and put up monuments to those who died as victims. As time passed, people remembered the revolution and those who died. The history is taught in school because teachers “wanted the kids to want to be angels” (2).
