In "Distraction," Ariana and the others stop in the dining hall to allow Maria to get espresso. Ariana sees Palmer there and realizes this is where he's been spending his mealtimes, apparently in an effort to avoid Lexa. Palmer invites Ariana to have lunch with him but she begs off, saying it's "too soon." He agrees but asks that she not keep him waiting too long. Maria is talking to Ariana later and says she believes Palmer is being "fickle," and that he's simply decided he wants to see someone else. Maria says Lexa has spent a great deal of time analyzing Palmer's comments and the situation, which makes Ariana believe Lexa has not yet prepared to move on.
