Summary
In Chapter 16, Grind wonders what kind of dark life his parents had been preparing him for as a child with the Constant Friction Method. In the present, Ellen moves into a mental health facility. Jeremy, Callie, and Eli move away to Jeremy’s farm. The children accept Eli’s departure without emotion. A month later, Harris announces he and Ellen will be leaving as well, and taking Marnie with them. Harris says he does not blame Grind or the project. Grind receives even more bad news a few days later when he learns that Brenda has died. Patricia tells Grind she will not have a hands-off approach to the project the way Brenda did, but that she will be very involved.
