Summary
In Chapter 12, it is now Year Three of the Infinite Family Project. Izzy is continuing to take college classes, and has declared a major in art. She decides she will cut out wooden letters to retell the15,000-word short story “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner, as the narrator uses “we” instead of “I” to refer to an entire community, much the way members of IFP are now using “we” instead of “I.” In art class, David, a college senior, asks Izzy to hang out with him and his friends. Izzy agrees to go for coffee with them. David and his friends are interested to learn about IFP. David asks Izzy out on a date, but Izzy declines, saying she must focus on the kids. David kisses her, and urges her to try normal human interaction.
