Isaac dives into the material brought to him by Teafortwo. A bibliophile and natural scholar, Issac is aware of how little he knows about biology, much less biological flight. Ivan stops at the Moon's Daughters pub to have a pint of ale and say hello to Red Kate, the proprietress. Isaac spies his friend, Gedrecsechet (Ged), vodyanoi or head librarian at the New Crobuzon Palgolak Library, a rich resource that equals the university library. Isaac asks Ged what he knows about the Garuda Bird-people. "Completely egalitarian and individualistic," Ged replies. The next day, Sunday, he meets Lin at the Clock and Cocker for supper and finds her surrounded by the usual gaggle of artists. musicians and critics, celebrating her new commission.
