The author argues that is is impossible to run away from home. Poppy tries to run away from home when she chooses to study at the University of Chicago. However, she is still drawn to home. She talks to Alex during orientation. Her roommate brings home to her by reintroducing her to Alex and suggesting that Poppy and Alex travel home for the summer together. She tries to hide her home, in the form of her parents, from Alex. However, they manage to meet.
In college, she looks at trips to plan vacations that take her away from home. Her desire to get away from home sends her home. She has to live at home because she drops out of college so that she can work to fund her trips. She takes Alex with her when she travels. Ironically, though she fights relentlessly to leave home...
