Summary

In the Prologue, "Five Summers Ago," it is the last night of the vacation that Poppy is taking with her friend Alex on Sanibel Island. They are spending it in a bar called BAR. Alex’s girlfriend has recently ended their relationship. Rain has plagued the trip. In spite of all of this, Alex has helped Poppy by taking pictures for her social media site. Before they leave, Alex takes a picture of the two of them to remind him of the trip. Poppy thinks about how one can have a persona on vacation that is different from the one they have at home.

In Chapter 1, "This Summer." Poppy works for a magazine called Rest + Relaxation. She works remotely most of the time. When the chapter begins, she is in the office attending the Friday pitch meeting. However, her mind is elsewhere...
