Chapters 24-29 Summary
In chapter 24, Chee explains everything the sister said to Mary and they discuss what it might mean. Chee believes it might have something to do with what the men were dying of and might explain why Emerson Charley's body disappeared. Chee believes someone is trying to hide a method of murder. In chapter 25, Chee and Mary visit Emerson Charley's doctor. They are told that Emerson had leukemia and that it had metastasized. There is no foul play involved. However, when Chee tells the doctor several other men associated with the Charley family also died of cancer, including Charley's father, she sends them to talk to their epidemiology people. The epidemiologist tells Chee and Mary that cancer is tracked on a computer. Chee has the doctor look up the names of the men who were part of the roustabout crew as well...
