Chapters 18 and 19 Summary
The grafting operation is successful, but Penny's arm still doesn't work. The kids Penny shares the ward with all go home except for the girl who has cancer. She is still holding on against all odds, and they put her next to Penny to give both girls company. Uncle Dominic still doesn't come, and Penny asks Frankie why. Frankie tells her that no one knows where he is. He got into his car and left the day of Penny's accident, and hasn't been seen since. Penny asks Frankie to find him. The next morning Frankie tells her that Uncle Dominic went to Florida. The nurses put the girl with cancer beside her for company. She is eight years old and has a good grasp of the fact that her life is ending. When it does two days later, Penny stops eating...
