Chapters 15 and 16 Summary
It is a hot August day and at Frankie's urging, Penny asks Me-me if she and Frankie can go to the pool. Sadly, Me-me believes that a person can contract polio at public swimming pools and won't let her go. She goes back outside and plays cards with Frankie for a while until Me-me and Pop-pop come out and announce they are going to the Harrison's until five. As soon as they are gone, Frankie convinces Penny that they can go the to pool and be back before anyone notices. They get to the pool to discover that Jack is the lifeguard and Penny can't stop thinking about him. When he calls her on the bullhorn, she is daydreaming about him, but manages to drag herself out of the pool when she sees her mother standing beside him. Her embarrassment is...
