Chapter 14 Summary
One morning soon after, Penny wakes to a bad smell. When she sees Scarlett O'Hara lying next to her bed in her own mess, and softly whining, she knows something is wrong. She calls Uncle Paulie, who asks her if she's seen Frankie, but Penny is too worried about Scarlett O'Hara to focus on that. A trip to the vet confirms that Scarlett can't be helped and the best they can do is make her comfortable. Penny puts her in diapers and sets her on the porch to watch the squirrels. She whines softly when she sees them and Penny is tempted to chase them for her. She hears someone calling her name and thinks she is imagining it until a hand waves to her from a bush in the back yard. She goes to it and finds Frankie, looking dirty and scared...
