Chapter 13 Summary
Penny's birthday begins like any other normal day. Scarlett O'Hara comes in and pees on the rug. Me-me makes banana pancakes for breakfast but uses bananas that aren't ripe. Her mother comes in and after wishing her a happy birthday, she gives her a small jewelry box. Inside is a ruby necklace. She tells her that it was the one in her engagement ring and helps her put it on, eager to hear if she likes it. Penny says she does, but can't help but think her father is disappearing. Frankie picks her up and they go to the store where the gifts continue. Uncle Ralphie gives her the same gift as every year — a pecan roll.
