Chapter 6 Summary
On Sundays, Penny has dinner at Nonny's, and after Me-me's cooking on Saturday, Penny is ready. Penny has five real uncles and three more adult cousins that she calls Uncle. They all get together and speak mostly Italian, which Penny doesn't speak. Aunt Gina claims they don't want them to learn Italian because during the war Italy was on the wrong side and Italians in America were penalized for it.
Dinner is a large, important affair to this side of the family. There is always a ton of food, which is always made with love and attention to detail. After dinner, instruments are pulled out and music is played, giving off a kind-of party-like atmosphere. Uncle Nunzio, who owns a clothing store, tells Penny she should come down and pick out her fall coat — a treat he bestows on her every year...
