Mount Everest

Mount Everest is symbolic of personal growth. Throughout the novel, the mountain is an extended metaphor for Peak's journey towards self-discovery and self-actualization. While he is physically ascending the mountain, Peak is also venturing into adulthood and therefore evolving emotionally and psychologically.

Moleskines

Peak's Moleskines are symbolic of writing and story. The Moleskines grant Peak the space to both record and process his experiences. Via these journals, Peak learns how writing and story might help him to understand what he is going through, what he wants, and who he is becoming.

Woolworth Building

The Woolworth Building is symbolic of adventure. Peak is determined to climb the building because doing so grants him a sense of excitement. The building is a self-fabricated challenge that Peak is using in order to disrupt his otherwise predictable daily life.
