Summary

In “Camp Four,” Peak, Zopa, Holly, and Sun-jo spent the morning preparing for the next leg of their climb. Peak still felt frustrated with Sun-jo and Zopa, convinced they were trying to ensure he was “too weak to get to the top” (151). Then Captain Shek appeared and questioned the group about Sun-jo’s whereabouts. To protect Sun-jo, they pretended he had already left the mountain.

The group began their trek to Intermediate Camp. Zopa and Sun-jo moved together and Peak stayed with Holly, who “was thinking about heading home” after Camp Four (154). Peak understood how she felt.

The group made their way through the next series of camps, eventually reaching 22,965 feet. Around the Col, or pass above ABC, the terrain grew icier and more difficult. Peak wanted “to give up,” but made it through (160). When they reached Camp Four, they spent...
