Point of View

The novel is written in first person from the limited perspective of Emmy Harlow. Emmy is able to relate only what she knows. She often does not know what other characters are thinking and feeling, meaning the reader is not aware of those thoughts and feelings. Emmy has been away from Thistle Grove for almost a decade, which means she is not in touch with the people, places, and feelings she experiences. For example, Emmy discovers that the Blackmoore family has expanded their tourist attraction which is taking most of the business from the Avramov and Thorn families. The others are struggling to the point that they are facing the possibility of bankruptcy. This has been going on for several years, but Emmy is not aware of it until others point it out.
