Summary
Chapter 14 is titled “Of Orchards, Jagbags, and Best Friends.” Emmy tells Linden about making out with Talia in the woods. They are in the sunflower field at Honeycake, which is the Thorn family farm. Gabrielle had warmly welcomed Emmy. She was worried Emmy was “caught in the middle” of the plan to keep Gareth from winning the Gauntlet. Emmy assured her that she was onboard. Gabrielle also complimented Emmy on how she handled herself as Arbiter. In the field, Emmy thinks again about the fact there will be nothing to draw her back to Thistle Grove after the Gauntlet, and about things she will never see again.
