Summary
In Chapter 10, over dinner at Vola’s house, Peter’s grandfather argued that the Water Warriors did not have the right to call themselves “warriors” (54) because they were not real military. He believed the military was about power. Peter glanced toward Vola’s prosthetic leg and reminded his grandfather that she had served as well. Vola added that while she respected those with military power, she was most respectful of those who used their power to remake things. She added that Peter would also learn some useful skills while he was with the group.
Peter was shocked later when his grandfather shared stories of his time in the service. It was almost as if he cared about Peter and wanted to be a grandfather. Peter, however, had already decided that after his stint with the Water Warriors was finished, he would not return...
