Part 2: Chapters 18-22 Summary
In chapter 18, Patty Jane attends an art show for Clyde Chuka and cannot understand why people pay so much for his sculptures. The following day, Harriet is in a store buying as much booze as Reese's ten dollars will buy when he comes upon her. Reese gives Harriet the address of an AA meeting before watching her walk away with several bottles of cheap wine. A few days later, Harriet is panhandling, trying to get up some more money for booze, when a school bus passes. Harriet recognizes her niece, Nora, in the bus. Harriet surprises Reese that night by showing up to the AA meeting. Reese takes Harriet home, giving her a place to stay while she sobers up.
