Part 1: Chapters 8-10 Summary

In chapter 8, the longer Thor is gone, the meaner Patty Jane grows until she begins to lash out at Harriet and Avel. Avel brings in a college roommate who is a successful therapist, but Patty Jane shames him before sending him away. Patty Jane tells everyone she might be depressed, but she does not need to talk to a therapist about it. At the same time, Harriet and Avel go forward with their wedding plans, purchasing a wedding dress and planning their honeymoon. The night before Avel is due to go to South America, Ione throws a combination bridal party and going away party for them. When it is over, Patty Jane tells Avel to sleep with Harriet that night. Avel takes Harriet to the lake where he proposed and they make love on a blanket. The following day...
