Summary
At the beginning of Chapter 49, Tru walks to Sore-Foot Marlon's house. Marlon answers the door, with his mother following him soon after when she hears it is Tru. Marlon's mother, Miss Olive, observes Tru, noting that she looks skinny and that her long hair is gone. She comments on the way Tru is dressed, and says that Patsy would not want to see her dressed this way, and that she and Marlon could pass as twins if she does not change her appearance. When Marlon and Tru are alone, Tru asks why Marlon is ignoring her. He dismisses her, but when Tru pushes on, he gestures to the neighborhood surroundings and comments that Tru does not have to come there, that she has a privileged life with her policeman father.
