Summary
In “Bravery as if it Were my Own,” Jay notices that little has changed since he lived with his grandmother and grandfather for the first year of his life. Jay at first wants to describe the village as quaint but then realizes that forgotten probably fits it better. The inside of the house is even as Jay remembers. This time, when Maning tries to take charge of Jay’s balikbayan box, Jay takes it and distributes the gifts himself.
Later, when Jay is looking for the bathroom, he goes into the room where Maning’s family will stay. He sees a piece of yellow paper that looks familiar sticking out of Grace’s backpack. Jay pulls it out and realizes it is one of the letters that Jun wrote to him. Jay has just found the rest of the letters when Grace comes...
