Summary
In “That Last Part Aloud,” during a tour of Manila, Maning points out the house where the president of the Philippines lives. Maning comments that Duterte is a great man. Ami brags that Duterte awarded Maning a medal for his work in the drug war. Maning notes that former president, Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos Sr., lived there longest. Maning believes that Marcos was also a great leader but Jay remembers from his history classes that Marcos was a brutal dictator.
Maning and Jay next visit the National Museums of the Philippines. In the museum of fine arts, the painting Spoliarium catches Jay’s attention because it reminds him of the pictures of the drug war. When Maning walks up beside Jay, Jay asks him what happened to Jun. Maning says nothing, only stays completely still. Jay starts to ask again but Maning interrupts...
